Buying Pokémon at trade is less mysterious than it looks, but the details matter. This guide explains how the UK trade supply chain generally works and what a sensible first purchase looks like.
English Pokémon product reaches UK retailers through official distribution and the wholesalers that buy from it. Imported product — Japanese, Chinese and Korean — comes through specialist importers. Spartan Wholesale is an independent UK trade supplier, not an official distributor.
Trade suppliers sell to businesses, not consumers. That includes physical shops, online stores, marketplace sellers and live sellers. Most suppliers ask for evidence that you trade — a website, marketplace profile, company details or sole-trader information.
Suppliers typically review each application before showing prices. Approval gives you access to trade pricing and ordering; it is not a credit agreement unless the supplier says so.
Imported sealed product can attract import duty and import VAT when it enters the UK. A UK-based supplier handles that before the stock reaches you, which is one reason buying from a UK supplier differs from importing yourself. Your own VAT position depends on your registration — take advice from an accountant rather than relying on a supplier's website.
Confirm the exact product, edition and language; the verified pack and box count; the seal condition; the ordering unit; and the delivery terms. If any of those are unclear, ask before you order.
